Dr. Shah is a cardiologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.
Dr. Shah specializes in echocardiography and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (diastolic heart failure). His research interests include understanding the physiology, mechanisms, and epidemiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, novel risk predictors in pulmonary hypertension, and the genetics of cardiac structure and function.
Dr. Shah received both his BSc (Bachelor's Degree) in Biomedical Engineering and his MD at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency, chief residency, and cardiology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, and completed a year of advanced training in echocardiography, heart failure, and genetics at the University of Chicago. Dr. Shah is board certified in echocardiography and internal medicine.
Dr. Shah has received recognition for his teaching, clinical, and research skills. He has been a finalist and/or winner of several young investigator awards, from such organizations as the Heart Failure Society of America and the American Society of Echocardiography. He was also a finalist for the American Heart Association's Laennec Young Clinician Award, and has received several awards for excellence in teaching. He regularly presents his research at national and international meetings in the fields of heart failure, genetics, echocardiography, and pulmonary hypertension.
He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Society of Echocardiography.
Dr. Shah's bibliography includes over 45 research papers, journal review articles, book chapters, and research abstracts. Dr. Shah is also editor of two books: The UCSF Hospitalist Handbook and Treatment Strategies in Cardiovascular Medicine.
