Biographical Sketch

Dr. Morasch is an attending vascular surgeon at the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, director of the Vascular Surgery Clinical Practice at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and co-director of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute's Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program. He is also an associate professor and the student teaching coordinator for Vascular Surgery at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Morasch performs surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Children's Memorial Hospital. He is listed in America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals and Guide to America's Top Surgeons.

He has a strong interest in complex extracranial cerebrovascular arterial reconstruction as well as in treating complex aortic pathology, including thoracic and thoracoabdominal aneurysms. His research interests include the use of MR technology in atherosclerotic plaque characterization. He currently serves as principal investigator or co-investigator on 17 studies. He has more than 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts published, 30 textbook chapters, 9 online publications, and has given over 95 presentations at regional, national, and international meetings.

Dr. Morasch currently sits on the Central Surgical Association Membership Advisory Committee and the Society for Vascular Surgery Government Relations Committee, Communications Committee and Clinical Practice Council, and the American College of Surgeon's Health Policy Steering Committee. In addition, he serves as a lobbyist for the SVS AAA Screening and Malpractice Reform Initiative and chairs the Chicago Surgical Society Young Surgeons Committee. He also serves on several quality management committees for Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

He serves as a reviewer for Journal of Vascular Surgery, Annals of Vascular Surgery, Surgery, Annals of Surgery, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, as well as several other prominent medical publications. He is on the editorial boards of Annals of Vascular Surgery and Vascular Specialist, and he is section editor for VascularWeb.

Dr. Morasch received his medical degree from Loyola University, where he also completed his internship and residency. In addition to training in vascular surgery for one year at St. James's Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, during his residency, Dr. Morasch completed a two-year vascular surgery fellowship at Wayne State University in Detroit. He is board certified in general surgery and vascular surgery and is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery.
