Biographical Sketch

Edwin C. McGee Jr., MD is a cardiac surgeon at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the surgical director of heart transplantation and mechanical assistance of the Advanced Heart Failure Program within the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute.

Dr. McGee's special interests include heart failure, transplantation, mechanical assistance, coronary surgery, valve repair, aortic surgery, endocarditis, maze procedure, IHSS septal myectomy, and re-operative surgery. A member of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and an assistant professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. McGee has been inducted into both the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies.

A graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. McGee completed his internship as well as his general surgery and thoracic surgery residencies at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed a fellowship in transplantation, heart failure and mechanical assistance at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and served as a research fellow at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. McGee is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery.
