Biographical Sketch

Dr. Losordo is the director, Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, director, Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute, and a member of the Northwestern Memorial Faculty Foundation. In recognition of his continued and outstanding achievements, Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine named Dr. Losordo the Eileen M. Foell Professor of Heart Research on May 3, 2007.

Dr. Losordo joined Northwestern from Tufts University in Boston, where he was a professor of medicine since 1989 and chief of cardiovascular research at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, the teaching hospital affiliate of Tufts University.

Dr. Losordo received his medical degree from the University of Vermont, and is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society for Cardiac Interventions and Angiography.

Dr. Losordo is currently the national principal investigator of a study being performed at 15 centers around the country testing the use of adult stem cells in patients with severe angina. He is also involved in a National Institute's of Health (NIH) funded study using the same cells to improve the ability of patients with blocked leg arteries to walk.
