Catherine S. Stika, MD is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been a member of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation since 1990. Dr. Stika was born in Chicago and grew up in Racine, Wisconsin. She graduated from Cornell University and taught junior high school science before deciding to change her career to women's health. After graduating from State University of New York Upstate Medical School in Syracuse, New York, she completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Michael Reese Medical Center in 1983 and initially worked at Women's Health Resources at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. After relocating to Northwestern, she completed a fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology in 1996.
In addition to having an active practice in general obstetrics and gynecologic surgery, her clinical interests focus on the pharmacology of contraception, including drug-drug interactions, contraceptive options for women with medical problems, medical termination, menopause problems and pharmacologic changes in pregnancy. Dr. Stika also co-staffs our Complex Contraception Clinic, participates in the Vulvar Mucosal Specialty Clinic which is jointly run by NMFF Dermatology and Obstetrics & Gynecology departments. Dr. Stika has published research studies in obstetric and contraceptive pharmacology and physiology and has worked with the FDA and NIH in their obstetrical pharmacology initiatives.
